Advanced Materials Workshop success!
The inaugural Advanced Materials Workshop, held on 22 Feb 2022, attracted over 40 Adelaide-based researchers and industry experts to the National Wine Centre for the half-day event.
ARC Graphene Research Hub Director, Prof Dusan Losic, provided an excellent overview of the Hub achievements over the past 5 years in growing the graphene industry in Australia including 9 patents, 6 licenses and over 15 new products. Large-scale graphene production, standard methods for characterisation and processes for effective dispersion were among the key fundamental outcomes.
Graphene-enhanced products developed by Hub industry partners approaching market-readiness are also among the key outcomes presented and include thermoplastics for safety boots (now available!), concrete, coatings, sensors, water filtration membranes, and environmental remediation technologies.
Researchers from the University of Adelaide Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences also showcased their impressive achievements in advanced materials. Outcomes included carbon nanodots as novel fertilisers, nanomaterials in medical devices, technology for a decarbonised gas energy future, and biomass nutrient recovery for low-cost fertilisers.
